Mohammed Asif, accused number four in the Honnali terror conspiracy case was on Tuesday granted bail by the judicial magistrate first class court, Honnali, as the police failed to file chargesheet against him within the stipulated 90 days. Asif will however, continue to be in the judicial custody because of the Hubli case, in which he has been chargesheeted for same offence. Asif is accused number one in the Hubli case.
Asif has helped intelligence agencies to trace funds for terrorist activities back to the gulf kingdom, Saudi Arabia, where a major bank is being used to move money to muslim youth recruited for anti-national activities. "Money for training the terrorists is sent through a bank based in Saudi Arabia. There are people in the bank who identify Muslim youth from poor families and ‘counsel’ them. Once they are seen as vulnerable to persuasion, the money is handed over to the beneficiary.
