The Minister was replying to a question by Naresh Kumar Gupta in Legislative Council today.
He said in fact the provisions of the forest policy guarantee socio-economic upliftment of the poor people living on forest fringes besides catering to their forest based requirements on sustained basis. He said the forest policy does not prescribe anything that may restrict or hinder the removal of firewood and extraction of timber from private land out of dry and fallen trees other than ‘Specified Trees’. He said the Divisional Commissioners in their respective jurisdictions are prescribed authorities for granting of permit for extraction in respect of specified trees in private land which includes walnut, oak, deodar, kail, chir and fir.
He said Bhaderwah Town ship falls in Municipal Committee areas notwithstanding the fact, it is located within one km are demarcated forest because all townships are the notified areas.
Ex-gratia only in death cases on man-animal conflict: Altaf
Minister for Forests, Mian Altaf Ahmad informed the House that the Wild Life Department pays ex-gratia relief only in case of death, injury to human beings during man-animal conflict.
The Minister was replying to a question by Nizam-ud-Din Khatana in Legislative Council today.
He said in death cases, ex-gratia compensation is paid to the legal heirs of the deceased @ Rs. one lakh per person upto Rs. 33, 000 for injured persons depending upon the nature and extent of injury. He said there is no scheme to compensate for the loss of livestock caused due to wild animals.
