As people of Jammu and Kashmir are habitual of forgetting
happenings quickly and imitating fast, still there are several jolts which they
had not forgotten till date. One such terrified incident of massacre of human
was carried on February 8, 2001 at Kot Charwal, in Rajouri uphill.
Families of Bakkarwal shepherds who had dared to take on
terrorist groups active on the mountains above Rajouri became the victims of
terrorism on the day when fifteen of their members lost lives to the terrorist
bullets. They were all members of village defence committee set up to protect
vulnerable Hindu minorities, seemed as a development of some significance in so
called democratic and secular system of state and country.
It was not until the afternoon of February 9, as the ashes
of burnt shacks of villagers had cooled, that soldiers arriving at Kot Charwal
discovered the charred bodies of victims. Soon they found burned body of a
woman, wrapped around that of an infant she had been trying to protect. By late
evening, 15 bodies had been found. Seven were of children, the youngest of them
just four years old.
“I still remember the day with pain as children who were
killed brutally by inhuman elements would have started their youthhood and few
of them might have married” Inyat Mazhar Khan said and added asked what was the
sin of minor children. Matching incidents are not less in counting but who
cares, people died and are continuously dying for none of their fault, he said.
It is the almighty who knows what is going to happen to generations to come
least all apparent arrangements of man made are futile. Money has become every
thing and more precious than conscious and humanity so is haunting the lust of
power to a section meant to serve the common masses, he added.
