For those that do not know who Charles Barkley is, he is an NBA hall-of-famer. Barkley is known as either “Sir Charles” or “The Round Mound of Rebound.” For those that keep up with the history of the NBA, they should very well know who Barkley is. Early this year, Barkley and fellow former NBA star Magic Johnson were somewhat active in politics.
Several months ago, they weighed on their “dream ticket.” Johnson’s dream ticket was a “Barack Obama-Hillary Clinton” ticket. Barkley’s dream ticket was “Hillary Clinton-Barack Obama” ticket. But that’s in the past. Now, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois is now the Democratic Presidential nominee.
So far, it seems that Barkley’s taken a deeper interest in politics. He was interviewed on CNN. It is revealed that Barkley is taking interest in running for Alabama State Governor. Alabama is the state in which Barkley was born.
Campbell Brown of CNN touched down on the Bradley Effect. The Bradley Effect states is that you plan to vote for someone; but when you go to the polls, you vote for the other person. There is the implication in regards to Obama and his ethnicity.
Barkley replied that the Bradley Effect is an issue. He cited racism greatest “cancer” of his lifetime. So far, he said anybody can be a racist. But, he adds that racists are idiots. Barkley went to address polls. For the last several weeks, there have been numerous polls launched.
From now and until Election Day on November 4, we can expect to see more polls to be launched. Barkley said that polls are useless. He explains that many people are racist. However, Barkley had said that those same people will not going to answer that question correctly.
Barkley acknowledged that racism is out there. He explains that racism will always exist. In addition, he explains that people need to be educated more in order to combat racism and become successful.
So far, Barkley’s had plenty of criticism towards GOP Presidential nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona. He did feel that the main reason Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was picked as a means to get to the Clinton voters. However, Barkley’s main frustration was not aimed at McCain. It was aimed at the GOP as a whole.
On that part, Barkley has weighed in on Obama and McCain. However, Barkley has his own plans for politics. Barkley told Campbell that in 2014, he plans to run for Alabama State Governor.
Barkley assured confidence that he can come 2014. He explains that his main priority would be fixing the education system. This gives the implication that Barkley will use education as his platform should he run for Alabama State Governor.
He said that without education, the kids turn into criminals.
Barkley’s priorities would be: fix education, fix the neighborhoods, and give economic opportunity. So far, it looks as if Barkley’s serious about running for Alabama State Governor.
Right now it is 2008 and a few months away from 2009. 2014 is between five to six years away. Anything can change between now and then.
For the time being picture Sir Charles as the future governor of Alabama.
