Former President barred from standing again

Former President of Malawi Dr Bakili Muluzi will not be stand in the 2009 Presidential elections,law commission has said.

According to the recent report released by the law commission, the framers of the commission intended former  presidents not to stand again once they leave state house.

The Former President has been addressing meetings telling people that he will stand again in the 2009 elections.

He had been at the helm of power from 1994 to 2004.

The republican constitution of Malawi bars former presidents from standing again.

However, the former president bases his urgments from a comment by a University lecturer who urgued that former presidents can stand because the constitution is not clear.
