Formula One Scraps Point System for Drivers Championship

The political leaders decided agreed of The governing body of the Formula One, FIA, has announced that they will be simplifying the rules this season with the winner declared as the driver with the most Grand Prix wins under his belt. Currently, the championship is decided by points.

If this system had been in place last year, the championship would have gone to Felipe Massa, of Ferrari, who won six races over actual champion Lewis Hamilton’s five titles. Hamilton beat out Massa by just one point.

FIA head Max Mosley said they had also introduced cost-cutting measures, including a voluntary salary cap on teams. Mosley said a cap would "encourage clever engineering– success will come to the teams with the best ideas" instead of the most money.
