The aquatic ecosystem relates to the following-
Fresh water
Freshwater is physical and biological link between oceans and land. It covers namely tanks, and reservoirs, saline tracks, lakes and marshes etc. Generally, these are three categories of freshwater organisms recognized on the ecological basis.
Producers which include green plants and photosynthetic micro- organisms.
Consumers- these include herbivores, omnivores, predators and parasites.
Decomposers beak down the organic complexes and include bacteria, and yeast etc.
Categories of freshwater fauna- Aquatic communities of freshwater are classified into the following;-
1. Superaneustion- these organisms remain associated with the upper surface of water (i.e. Aquatic birds, and spiders etc.)
2. Infraneuston- these refer to the organisms coming in contact with submerged surface of water {i.e. Mosquito larvae (wriggles) pupae and snails etc}.
3. Plankton- these are group of plants or animals which float or swim at various depths very feebly. The plant material is phytoplankton and faunal representatives form zoo planktons. Besides, there are very small -sized nano- planktons.
4. Nekton- they are large active swimmers swimming independently.
5. Pedon: they include bottom- dwelling organisms.
6. Periphyton- they remain clinged to submerged vegetations.
