According to the local U-District Komo blog, 22-year-old Brittany Ann Hollenbach was hit by a car the morning of November 11, 2009. Brittany Hollenbach was taken to Harborview Medical Center following the incident for head injuries.
The Daily, a publication by the University of Washington, reported this morning that "Brittany “Holle” Hollenbach, a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority and a senior at the UW, was taken off life support yesterday."
The reporter added that a vigil will be held for Hollenbach at the sorority house this evening at 7 PM. The university’s counseling resources are also available to classmates.
No charges have been filed against the 20-year-old driver, who passed drug and alcohol tests.
Twitter user users expressed their condolences, saying "thoughts are with Brittany Hollenbach’s family and friends. She was inspirational and brightened rooms." Another user said, "Sending love, thoughts and prayers to the Hollenbach family and Tri-Delts. Holle is in all of our hearts."
The Seattle Police Department Blotter provided the following report of the incident:
The 20-year-old driver saw the group of pedestrians run across the street as the traffic signal changed to green for eastbound traffic on NE 50th St. The 20-year-old driver continued through the intersection, when suddenly a 22-year-old female running in the same crosswalk ran into the path of his car.
The Honda struck the 22-year-old pedestrian. The Seattle Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the 22-year-old female pedestrian to Harborview Medical Center with serious head injuries and possible other injuries.
A Drug recognition expert /DUI officer responded to the scene and completed an evaluation of the 20-year-old driver of the Honda, for signs of impairment and/or intoxication. There were no signs of impairment or intoxication found. The driver was Investigated & Released at the scene.
