Frying renders the food tasty

Different articles of the food are cooked in different ways

Why do we cook our food?

We cannot eat all the food raw. Some of them are hard to digest. Some of them are not tasty. They need to be cooked.

  • The food cooked becomes soft. Light and easily digestible. When meat and vegetables are cooked, their fibers become soft and it is easy to chew them.
  • Cooking makes the food tasty.
  • Cooking makes the food attractive. It sharpens our appetite and also stimulates the digestive juices.
  • Cooking helps to kill the diseases germs that are present in the raw food and avoids many diseases.
  • As a result of cooking, the food can last longer. For instance, boiled milk does no go bad for a longer period of time.
  • Cooking in various styles gives variety of taste to the food. If a person has to eat the same kind of food every time everyday, he gets fed up and finds the food tasteless. If the same foodstuff is used in a variety of forms, it becomes pleasing to the plate. For instance, a bottle ground can be used in a variety of ways for examples, as Kofta, Raita or Kheer. By doing so, we do not get fed up of this.

Frying

Cooking food by this method require ghee or oil. In this method, food does not come into a direct contact with fire but is cooked by the heat of the cooking medium like ghee or oil.

Frying renders the food tasty and attractive but destroys all the vitamins. It also makes the food hard to digest.

Roasting

This is an age-old method of cooking. In ancient times, people used to hunt animals and birds and eat them after roasting. Hot air is used to cook food in this method. Maize, grams, groundnuts, etc., are roasted in heated sand. Potato, sweet potato, etc., are put in hot ashes to roast them.

This method results in loss of the vitamins in the food.

Baking

It is commonly believed that while roasting, foodstuff does not come into a direct contact with fire while it does during baking. While baking a thing like papad, it is placed directly on the fire.

Bead, biscuits, cake, pastry, etc., are asked in an oven, while tandoori roti is baked in a tandoor.
