At 1000 GMT on Saturday, a convoy of thirty vehicles from the Road Haulage Association will plan to create a rolling blockage on Scotland’s major roads. At the same time, there will be demonstrations at refineries across Britain orchestrated by a group called Transaction 2007.
Alone with police, the government says that the situation is currently monitored. This day of action and demonstrations comes after the fuel prices rose above one British Pound per liter.
There were been demonstrations planned at the following refineries: Stanlow at Cheshire, Fawley at Southampton, Jarrow at Tyne and Wear, Purfleet at Essex, Cardiff, Immingham at North East Lincolnshire, and Grangemouth at Falkirk. These demonstrations will be taking place at the same time as the rolling blockage.
The group calling itself Transaction 2007 says it represents haulers, farmers, and motorists. They call for rebates on the price of fuel for the haulers, farmers, and others that use the road along with a fuel tax reduction.
They also want more duties to be imposed on lorries not from Britain that come into the country to do business. Their website urges participants to act within the law.
While the RHA has its demonstration, it says they are not connected to Transaction 2007.
