The kids can make anyone’s life hell in the winters, if they are not kept occupied! You certainly can’t turn them out of the house to play in the biting cold. Forced to remain indoors, they pester you to entertain them, just to ward off boredom. You read them stories, play games with them and try all sorts of pastimes, but eventually, the kids get tired with the same old stuff and hanker for more. If you are one of those who dread the winter months on account of your kids, worry not. There are plenty of fun winter activities your kids will cherish and most importantly they won’t hurt your pocket.
Let us see what they are:
-
Coloring books:
Coloring book as an activity is one the best time-tested methods to keep the kids engaged for hours and it tops the list of fun winter activities. All you need to do is to spend a little amount on the coloring books available in the market for all age groups and on colors – pencil colors, crayons, water colors and what have you.
-
Snowman from wool pads:
If you yourself are the creative type, then you will certainly enjoy making a snowman from wool pads. Moreover, you don’t have to spend a lot on it. Use round cotton wool pads, available everywhere, and make it in the shape of a snowman and let your kids decorate it in their own special way.
-
Bobsled run:
If your area experiences snow in the winters, your kids would certainly know about bobsled or bobsleigh, one of the most exciting events in the Winter Olympics. You can help your kids make their own bobsled from junk in their cupboard or from Lego game. Take a long cardboard tube from wrapping paper, cut it in two lengthwise. Now paint the two pieces white and rest them side by side on a small table. Make the bobsled from the building blocks and compete with your kids racing them down the slopes.
-
Ice painting:
This painting doesn’t need a canvas to paint on! All it needs is shallow food containers that are filled with water and frozen in the freezer. Take out the frozen containers and make your kids sprinkle powder paint on the ice. The colors diffuse in the ice making interesting pictures or patterns on it. The kids will love putting their creative minds at work.
-
Lolly stick snowman:
It is yet another fun winter activity and all it needs is an ice cream stick, white paint, black pen, colored paper, ribbon and glue. Make the kids paint the stick in white color. Once the color has dried, draw the snowman’s face with the black pen and make a small cone nose out of the color paper and glue it on its face. Make the snowman’s scarf by tying a piece of ribbon around the stick.
These fun winter activities will not only keep your kids busy during the holiday break, but will also enhance their creativity and help you discover their inherent talents.
