On October 4, 2013 Rep. Brooks of Alabama asked for and was granted permission to address the United States House of Representatives for a few minutes regarding an issue affecting national security.
Rep. Brooks then had the audacity to blame President Obama for the government shutdown, despite the fact that he had nothing really to do with it.
It should be noted that Rep. Brooks is one of the Republican Tea Party members who v0ted in favor of defunding ObamaCare and refusing to pass an appropriations bill necessary to fund government operations.
“Mr. Speaker, according to the Department of Defense, “of the Department’s 800,000 civilian workers, about half will be furloughed.” That means President Obama, our Commander in Chief, in his sole discretion, publicly declared that roughly 400,000 DOD civilian employees are not “essential” to America’s national security.”
“Mr. Speaker, President Obama’s furloughing 400,000 civilian Defense workers violates the law while putting national security at greater risk” (source: Congressional Record http://thomas.loc.gov).

This is not the first time Rep. Brooks had made outrageous claims and statements regarding ObamaCare and the government shutdown.
Recently Rev. Al Sharpton slammed Brooks on live TV for likening the ObamaCare fight in Congress to civil rights http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ihMwAZck3BA
In searching for something nice to say about Rep. Brooks all I could come up with really is that he is correct in saying that the furlough of civilian workers at the Department of Defense is adversely affecting the national security of the United States.
