The Rise of inflation rate to a mercurial 7.41 and the prise rise issue rocked the Indian parliament today.
When the Lok Sabha began its session today the 15 th of April ,2008, Prime Minister Mr.Manmohan singh introduced the recently newly sworn in Ministers after the reshuffle of the Cabinet, to the Lok Sabha. When the question hour began, the opposition parties including the left parties created an uproar in the assembly over the issue of price rise of all essential commodities and the apathy of the government. The inflation rate has also soared to an all time high for 7.41, when the Reserve Bank of India has set the tolerable limit of inflation only upto 5.
Consequent to the uproar in the assembly, the Lok Sabha Speaker, Mr.Somnath Chatterjee, adjourned the house from 11.00 to 11.30 hours. When the Lok Sabha was again convened at 1130 hours, the uproar in the Lok Sabha again continued to an unprecedented level, thereby forcing the Speaker of the Lok Sabha, to adjourn the entire session of the Lok Sabha today.
Similarly, Rajya Sabha was also adjourned for the entire day today over the issue of price rise.
Meanwhile, the Members of Parliament, belonging to CPI (M),led a procession along with third front members,in the premises of Parliament, carrying placards with them, protesting over the unprecedented price rise of all essential commodities in India.
The Government has already taken some fiscal measures like imposing a ban on cement, and liberalizing imports by canceling a number of taxes and duties on imports. But so far the Government’s steps have not yielded the desired results.
