Gautam Buddha apostle of peace: Jora

 

    Srinagar, May 17 (Scoop News) –    2555th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gautam Buddha was celebrated with religious fervor and gaiety here today.

            In this connection, a grand function was organized by Himalayan Buddist cultural Association, Students wing Srinagar at Nigin club.

            Minister for Tourism and Culture  Nawang Rigzin Jora was the chief guest on the occasion, who inaugurated the function by lighting candles. To pay homage to Buddha, a special prayer was organized, attended by a large number of people, including students, intellectuals, academicians and lamas on the occasion.

            President Ladakh Students wing Srinagar presented a power point presentation on the life and teaching of Mahatma Gautam Buddha besides several speakers threw detailed light on the teachings of this great.

 Jora while felicitating people on the eve of birth anniversary of Mahatma Buddha, said that this great was an apostle of peace and truthfulness, whose message of Ahinsa and non-violence assumes greater relevance today, when world is facing with growing intolerance and the cult of violence.

The Minister said that all religions shows the right path for spending prosperous and peaceful life in the world. He said religion is the moral code of conduct of making prospect to the mankind. He said we all should follow the preaching and teachings of our prophets, s and saints for making a peaceful world.

 Jora said that Buddha has preached for truthfulness, love and compassion for peace and solace of human being. He said following on the path shown by this great is imperative for strengthening the bonds of love, brotherhood, communal harmony and amity between different religions and communities.

The Minster, on the occasion, honourd Ms. Owsa Iqbal with Ladakh traditional scarf (Khataks} on qualifying IAS examination. He said it was the great pride for the State as well as Ladakh region that a female has qualified such a prestigious examination and brought laurels in the history of Ladakh. He called upon student fraternity to strive hard and bring excellence in country level competitive examination like Ms Owsa.

Commissioner Secretary, ARI &Trainings,  Tashi Durjee was also honored by the Minister for his induction into IAS cadre on the occasion.
