While the UN Economic and Social Council today discussed the socio-economic impact of the Israeli occupation and blockade on the Palestinian living conditions, the UN Humanitarian Country Team in the Occupied Palestinian Territory has also highlighted the impact of Israel’s blockade on the Palestinian children and their education in Gaza.
Philippe Lazzarini, the Acting UN Humanitarian Coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory said the Israeli blockade has caused untold suffering to children in Gaza.
Pointing out to the long-disrupted Gazan educational system, Lazzarini has demanded full and unfettered access into and out of Gaza.
According to UN sources, 18 Gazan schools were completely destroyed while 280 were damaged before the ceasefire six months ago.
