Rajouri/Jammu, September 21 (Scoop News)-Provincial President National Conference Devender Singh Rana on Saturday said the expose on the former army chief General (Retd) V K Singh has given a new dimension to the unfortunate 2010 incidents in Srinagar that caused grievous scars on democratic institutions and alienated the people of Kashmir from the mainstream.
If the report is true, it is a gory truth, he said adding a thorough and independent probe alone can expose the actors who misadventured in anti-people machinations of attempting to overthrow the democratically elected government led by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Addressing NC convention in Kotranka block of Rajouri district this afternoon, the Provincial President reiterated his party’s demand for a judicial probe by a sitting Supreme Court judge to unveil the sinister plan which has shattered the faith of the people largely. He said this is not for the first time when a conspiracy has been hatched against the verdict of the people of Jammu and Kashmir but attempts were made several times in the past as well to weaken the National Conference, as it represents the urges and aspirations of the people.
“National Conference would not get bullied by such evil designs and will continue to agitate the genuine political aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, Mr Rana declared, saying the party has never compromised with the overall interest of the people and the State. He said the sensational disclosures made in a report only fortify the apprehensions of the party about dirty games being played by vested interests within and outside the state to trample democracy and the special identity of Jammu and Kashmir. “We will not allow this to happen”, he said.
He exhorted party workers to close rank and file and foil the anti-people machinations being perpetrated by the enemies with full strength. “This is beginning of the challenge being posed by anti-people elements and we should be ready for more such grievous political assaults”, he said.
The Provincial President described workers as great strength of the party and hoped that their devotion and dedication will see the great mass movement launched by Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah overcome all challenges with fortitude. In the process, National Conference will emerge as a force to reckon with, he said adding this will the party’s befitting response to all those scheming against it at various levels.
He urged the workers to galvanise the party at the grass roots level and disseminate the gains of peace and development achieved during the past four and half years government of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in every nook and corner of the state. He said the initiatives taken by the government have fructified in the empowerment of the people in decision making with the Panchayati Raj becoming a reality. He also referred to the Right to Information and Public Services Guarantee Acts and said that are the revolutionary measures aimed at empowering the people to make government accountable. He said a new era of peace has dawned across the state that has given fillip to economic activity and spurt to developmental initiatives. He particularly made a mention of turnaround in the situation and said that peace and normalcy have created a situation conducive for enhanced economic activity and faster development.
