Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed disgust at the latest round of accusations and obnoxious remarks by the former State Governor S K Sinha against the party and its patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed.
In a statement issued here today a party spokesman said Sinha’s sickness of mind had already caused a huge damage to the State and its socio-political fabric. “It now seems Gen Sinha wants to promote his book among his communally oriented clientele by projecting Kashmir in dark colors”, he added.
The spokesman said the agenda of PDP is clear and it doesn’t matter if people of Sinha’s thinking endorse it or not. In fact the problems facing Kashmir are the result of a thought process that is represented by Sinha and his cohorts. “They want to see Kashmir as a colony rather than a place inhabited by a self-respecting people with a glorious heritage who need to be treated with dignity and given the economic and political space that they deserve as a right and not a concession”, he said.
PDP, the spokesman said, has no reason to be apologetic about its agenda based on the concept of Self-Rule especially after its endorsement by people across the State and a resounding approval in recent elections. He said healing touch policy of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed has proved a turning-point in Kashmir’s history and we stand by our demand for monetary and other assistance to all the victims of violence including the families of slain militants. “The widows and children of the killed militants have committed no crime and their welfare should be a genuine obligation for the State” the spokesman said and pointed out that except for people of Sinha’s perverted logic this is a universally accepted principle.
The spokesman said the problem of people like Sinha is that they don’t want any state government to speak up for their people and like to see elected government of the State to do the bidding of the center instead. Any government that defies this expectation is quickly dubbed as anti national as Sinha has done in case of the PDP-led government and accused it of “having been a spokesman of militants”, he said.
Referring to the PDP proposal for having a governor elected by the State legislature, the spokesman said though many governors sent to the State were men of outstanding capabilities and distinction, exceptions like Sinha had brought the high office into disrepute. He said it was unfortunate that Gen Sinha had turned the State’s Raj Bhawan into a den of conspiracy and communalized its functioning and far from being a father figure and constitutional authority, by his own account caused a communication breakdown with elected head of the government.
Commenting on the extremely provocative anti-Muslim remarks of BJP candidate from Pilibhit, UP, Varun Gandhi, the spokesman said Varun was in fact the younger face of Sinha. The streak of rabid communalism runs right across the Sangh Parivar to which both belong. “As if to emphasize their solidarity”, the spokesman pointed out both had chosen the same day for baring their fangs.
