The now 21-year old Genarlow Wilson explained that he’s glad that he rejected the plea deal from prosecutors. If Genarlow Wilson had taken the plea, he would’ve been released from prison several months earlier. However, Genarlow Wilson explained that taking the plea deal would leave him without a home. He said taking the plea would label him as a sex offender. The thought drove Genarlow Wilson to reject the deal.
He told CNN that he had to think about his family. “It might’ve been lesser time, but then again, I would have nowhere to go because I would have no home,” Wilson states in the CNN interview.
Wilson continued with: “I wouldn’t be able to stay with my mother because I have a little sister. You know, when you’re a sex offender you can’t be around kids. Basically, I can’t even have kids myself, you know, so what is the point of life?”
Still, Wilson explains he has no negativity to District Attorney David McDade who prosecuted the case. McDade has also fought against the reduction of Wilson’s sentence. Instead, Wilson says that he’s going to focus on the future and hopes to get into college soon.
Wilson hopes to major in sociology.
