Florham Park New Jersey. New York Jets head coach Rex Ryan, 51, on Friday named second year player Geno Smith, 23, to be the starting quarterback of his football team on Friday.
The New York Jets will be hosting the Oakland Raiders in week one of the 2014 National Football League regular season at MetLife Stadium. Michael Vick, 34, will serve as the backup quarterback of the Jets this football season.
Smith will be able to remain the starting quarterback of the Jets this football season if he stays healthy and wins football games for the Jets this season.
The only scenarios that Vick will get to play as the starting quarterback of the Jets would be if Smith suffers an injury during the game or if his performance of the gridiron is so bad that he would need to be replaced.
In a perfect world Rex Ryan would start Vick as his starting quarterback since he has more experience playing in the National Football League. Smith is in second year in the National Football League.
Vick signed a one year, $4 million contract to serve as a mentor to Smith as well as push him to improve his performance as a quarterback this football season. I just wonder if the Jets are making the right choice going with a second year quarterback to lead them this football season instead of a veteran quarterback like Vick.
