Information designer Eric Fischer created a geo-tagged world atlas, where color density on the maps of world’s largest cities represents the number of photos uploaded by Flickr users.
The maps give us a pretty good idea of where the tourists snap the most photos. Let’s examine the map of Moscow.
No surprise here: most photos are taken inside the Garden ring, the perimeter made of boulevards around the Kremlin. Another observation: there is surprisingly little activity in Moscow compared to other cities.
The little hook under the Garden ring represents Vorobievi Hills, a nice observation deck overlooking the city. It is the tourist attraction. It is also, for some bizarre reason, one of the places where Moscow’s newly-weds go right after getting their marriage license, so part of the photo activity credits goes to them.
The neck of the hook is, of course, Rublyovka, the uber-rich village where you can’t swing a dead cat without hitting Naomi, Cameron, Paris, and other good people who don’t mind coming to Russia for money.
