US President George Bush, now at the Olympics in Beijing, said, “Georgia is a sovereign nation, and its territorial integrity must be respected.”
It was his expression based on the norms and values of international relations and laws. Had he respected many sovereign nations’ territorial integrity and sovereignty, the condition of international relations and peace would have been far better today.
President Bush, report international news media, added, “We have urged an immediate halt to the violence and a stand-down by all troops. We call for the end of the Russian bombings.”
He was right to say so.
Had he immediately halted the violence and a stand-down by his troops on Iraq, 1.6 million Iraqis would not have been killed so far.
Of course, President Bush personally did not go to Iraq and shoot anybody by using an M-16. But his policy was responsible for this.
His wrong analysis was to blame. How many weapons of mass destruction (WMD) did he find in Iraq? Nobody knows.
His ideological prejudices and superpower arrogance were the underlying factors behind the huge losses of innocent lives.
Russia has imitated the US Administration. It has invaded Georgia. Russia wants to benefit from the control over Georgia, a pro-US nation that separated from the previous Soviet Union.
For the loss of 1500 civilians in Ossetia, both Georgia and Russia are responsible. Right to life, the most important human right, has been violated here.
However, strategic control over Georgia is the Russian intention. As Georgia is the transit country for the export of oil and natural gas, Russia would like to control the route.
As far as control of natural resources is concerned, it would not be irrelevant to raise this question: How many oil mines have the USA and its European allies controlled in Iraq so far?
