It is never too early to start this task and never too late either. Doing little tasks along the way will make the larger task of much easier. Pick small, easily accomplished chores now that will save you time later. I suggest starting with Junk Drawers and Organizing The Pantry.Start with those Junk Drawers! Everyone has one… or maybe two or three. Personally, I think I might have one in every room of the house. They actually are not a bad thing, they help me confine the clutter to one place until I can take the time to tackle it but now is the time. Plan to do the junk drawer of one room each week and in no time you will have everything back in place. Empty the contents of the junk drawer on a table or the floor. Spread it all out and first decide what you would like to have stay in the drawer. Usually, these or miscellaneous items that you use often enough such as scissors, tape, glue and maybe a flashlight. Put these items back into the drawer in an orderly fashion. Now sort out the rest of the items. Where should they be put away? Do they have another home in the house? Sort items by room they belong in and send them to their rightful home. I actually send them to the junk drawer in the right room first and when I get to that room, I can put them away as I clean out that junk drawer.
Now is a great time to tackle that pantry. The first thing you need is an empty shopping bag. This will be used to gather items that are non-perishable that you don’t believe you will be using. They can be donated to a local food pantry. I generally make myself fill one bag each time I clean out my pantry… but I have a large pantry. This is a messy task as you usually have to pull things off shelves in order to sort and find the best way to organize your pantry but it really will reduce your shopping bill if you know what you have and use it first. Check the expiration dates on anything that might be perishable. Keep canned goods in an area that you can readily see what they are. DO NOT REMOVE LABELS. The school may need soup labels but you need to know what the product is and you can get to sending in labels as you use the products. Consolidate products as possible. We have a "snack bin" with single serving sized snacks of all kinds just emptied into one container so that there are always a variety of snacks and they are all in one place. Dispose of packaging that is not necessary. Recycle as much as you can.
These simple steps will help you get ready for Spring Cleaning and reduce clutter in your own life. Clutter does lead to stress and simplifying your surroundings will help to reduce stress in your life as well.
