Can I be the first person to coin the phrase "AuschwitzGate?" Cool. When historians look back at how Republicans used false arguments and ruses to undermine a good candidate I will now be part of that history.
What am I talking about? Seems Obama spoke in front of some persons and said his Uncle helped liberate Auschwitz. There’s only one problem with that little story…
<b>The Russians liberated Auschwitz. </b>
You can watch the movie if you like but — trust me — it’s more Cringe Worthy than He-Man’s cat.*

This obviously is a story that needs more clarification but — let’s set the record straight — it is not, as yet, a "<a href="http://www.redstate.com/stories/elections/2008/obama_lies_about_holocaust_for_political_gain">lie</a>." I for one truly doubt that Obama consciously made up this story. I suspect he merely has his facts wrong or the story has been exaggerated over the years. This isn’t uncommon; I haven’t met a human on Earth who doesn’t have an "old uncle somewheres" who stormed the beach at Normandy but "won’t talk about it." (If every old Uncle who claimed to have stormed the beach at Normandy was really there they’d still be docking boats). The great likelihood is that his Uncle was at some other camp or maybe there is some confusion in the family.
Of course if it is just a <em>bald</em>-faced lie then it is utterly inexcusable.
Whatever the result, you can fully expect this will be rubbed in his face for the next six months or so. The common themes will apply: he’s <a href="http://www.redstate.com/stories/elections/2008/a_pathological_need_to_be_a_part_of_history">self-important</a>, he’s <a href="http://glock21.blogspot.com/2008/05/obama-auschwitz-lie.html">egotistical</a>, he’s inexperienced, he <a href="http://michellemalkin.com/2008/05/27/whoa-now-thats-a-gaffe/">lacks a knowledge of history</a>, etc.
But — as yet — this doesn’t make him a liar.

*Remember, He-Man’s cat was named "Cringer?" I know, I know, it’s terrible. Honestly why do you even put up with me anymore? I won’t blame you if you want to walk away, seriously.
