Jammu, January 30, (Scoop News)- On the martyrdom of Mahatma Gandhi rich tributes were paid to Father of the Nation during a function organized by Gandhi Global Family at Dewan-e-Aam Mubarak Mandi Jammu here today.
National President Gandhi Global Family (Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha) Ghulam Nabi Azad was the chief guest on the occasion.
MLC Naresh Gupta, Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Shantmanu, IGP Rajesh Kumar, Director Health Services Jammu, Dr. Baljeet Singh Pathania, Commissioner JMC, Kiran Wattal, Padmashri S.P Varma Vice President Gandhi Global Family besides teachers, large number of students from different educational institutions, prominent citizens, NGOs and large number of volunteers of Gandhi Global Family from all over the state participated in the programme.
While paying tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Azad said that Gandhiji’s philosophy is timeless and his ideology on world peace and social harmony is as relevant today as it was over decades ago. He called upon the institutions of civil society and all citizens to follow Gandhi Ji’s principles of truth, non-violence and the ideals for which the Mahatma struggled and sacrificed his life.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu also deliberated upon the relevance of Gandhian thought for maintaining peace, truth and non-violence and lauded the efforts of the Gandhi Global Family in disseminating the teachings of Gandhi Ji which would help in progressive and productive development of the nation. He stressed for carrying forward the message of universal brotherhood and peace.
Describing Mahatma Gandhi as an apostle of peace and the real architect of freedom movement of India, S.P Verma said that Martyrs like him always remain alive in the hearts of the masses for centuries to come. He urged the students to study the biography of Mahatma Gandhi to spread his teachings.

A free diabetes screening camp was also organized on the occasion by Directorate of Health Services Jammu where large number of people was examined by a team of specialized doctors from the Health Department.
A two minute silence was also observed at 11 a. m to pay homage to Father of the Nation and the students also took a pledge for communal harmony and strengthening the spiril of tolerance, compassion and love for all humans.
Earlier, floral tributes were paid by the children followed by an all faith prayers and bhajans of Gandhi Ji. A pledge for global peace was taken by the participants. The programme concluded with the national anthem. Dr. Ashwani Jojra conducted the programme.
