Ghana Election: The race is keen

The race between the two major parties in the Ghanaian election has never been this keen. Both parties were initially claiming victory, but it is now becoming clear that a run-off is still a possibility. The Governing NPP candidate is leading with a little above 49% while the opposition NDC candidate is following closely with almost 48%.
One thing is clear though: the government has lost more parliamentary seats to the opposition who are firmly in control of parliament. Some big guns in parliament; some ministers and the two deputy speakers have lost their seats.
One wonders how governance will be if the ruling party candidate should win. This is because the Constitution requires that majority of ministers should come from parliament. The Majority Leader’s position is a ministerial one. That means the new government, if the NPP wins will be a minority government. Looking at the big and almost irreconcilable differences that exist between these two parties, one wonders how they government will manage with a minority in parliament.
That also means that the Speaker of Parliament, who is the third most powerful person in the country, will be from the opposition. This will look like a cohabitation government in France, or a typical example of what happened in America.
The Electoral Commission is yet to release all the results. All depends on the outcome
