Right now, things do not look good for GOP Presidential nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona right now. Recent poll results show that Democratic Presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois has been gaining ground over McCain in several crucial battleground states.
A recent TIME Magazine/CNN poll shows that Obama is showing strong in states that current United States President George W. Bush had won in 2000 and 2004. The first United States Presidential debate between McCain and Obama did not seem to change the dynamic of things.
The first and only VP debate between McCain running-mate Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and Obama running-mate Senator Joe Biden of Delaware did not seem to change the dynamic either. Ironically, the VP debate was a bit more interesting than the presidential debate.
Former Republican House Speaker Newt Gingrich has weighed in on the situation. Gingrich has said that McCain is in “political danger.” He gives the prediction that McCain will lose to Obama. However, that is if McCain does not publicly break from the hefty $700 billion bailout proposal which is set to help out Wall Street.
Gingrich has provided a valuable piece of ammunition for McCain as well. He said that McCain has a chance to rebound in the polls if he can use the frustrations that many Americans have towards the bailout. And yes, this bailout is extremely hefty.

Gingrich had written: “The country is deeply fed up with the Bush presidency and angry about the Paulson bailout. If McCain is confused or uncertain about how bad this economic performance is, he will never get the country to listen to him.”
According to a recent CNN/Opinion Research Corporation poll, not many Americans are thrilled about the proposal.
The questions are:
Will McCain publicly break from this idea?
At this current state, will he be able to?
Before the bill was passed through Congress last week, it had failed to pass the first two times. The first time was at the White House. Days before the first US Presidential debate was set to take place, McCain announced he wanted to temporarily suspend his campaign to come up with a solution for the financial crisis. McCain and Obama had flown to Washington DC to meet with Bush.
McCain took a heavy hit during that time. It was revealed that a majority of the House Republicans voted against the bill.
Obama stayed out of the negotiations that went through the US House. The negotiations broke down and McCain took a hit from that as well.
Overall, Gingrich has given his two cents. To Gingrich, McCain is going to lose this November. Unless, McCain makes a public break from support of the hefty bailout bill.
Perhaps the bailout bill will be a hot topic for tonight’s debate. So far, many are predicting that McCain will have the advantage. For those that do not know, tonight’s debate will be in a town-hall format. Many have said that McCain is the master of the town-hall.
