As Giuliani dropped out of the race, he would endorse his longtime friend and frontrunner John McCain. He had called McCain the most qualified candidate to become the next commander in chief of the USA.
“This is a man prepared to be President of the United States at a time of great peril,” Giuliani had said. McCain then acknowledged Giuliani as his strong right arm and partner.
Giuliani wanted to fall forth a stronger and broader GOP.
“I’m hopeful we can secure his election very soon so we can unite our party and begin the process of uniting our nation,” Giuliani had added.
This announcement made by the former New York mayor took place after 6 PM EST at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum in California. Giuliani said that he would campaign for McCain in whatever capacity asked of him.
“When I believe in a man like I do John McCain, this will become to me as important as my own election was,” Giuliani had said.
“I expect him to be fairly active for McCain,” according to New York Republican Rep. Peter King. “There is a real friendship and respect between the two,” King added.
McCain also gave Giuliani an embrace.
“I want to thank my dear friend, my dear friend Rudy Giuliani, who invested his heart and soul in this primary and who conducted himself with all the qualities of the exceptional American leader he truly is,” McCain said in regards to Giuliani. He added: “Thank you, Rudy, for all you have added to this race and for being an inspiration to me and millions of Americans.”
