Goans in Qatar wish god luck for Indian team
Doha Qatar: A large number of Goans turned up in large numbers at the Doha International Airport in Qatar to greet newly appointed coach of Indian team Armando Colaco, who is here to play a friendly match against Qatar on Sunday at Al Sadd Stadium, 6.30pm.
Colaco, is the first Goan origin coach to don the mantle as coach of the Indian national team.
For Colaco, this is his maiden stint with the national team, all his success has come at the club level for Dempo SC, the club where he also served as a player and where he now holds the dual duties of a coach-cum-general secretary. He has been given a temporary break of four months by his club to take up the national assignment.
Leading the front in applauding Colaco for earning the top post through ‘Sheer hard work and dedication’ in the football arena were Doha Goans Sports Club officials who were present at the airport to greet Colaco.
“It’s a great honour for Goans and all football lovers as Colaco has been awarded for dedicating his life for football,” said DGSC official Antonio Joao Vaz, who knew Colaco from his childhood days at Don Bosco High School Panjim where the 58-year-old kick started his football career.
The Goan group comprised a number of youngsters who wanted to have glimpse of their favourite stars and came armed with the tricolor flag.
The thirty member squad comprises of ten Goans.
Besides, Colaco there are two more Goans in squad as officials Savio Medeira (Assistant Coach), Marcus Pacheco (Goalkeeping Coach) .
There are five Churchill Bros players while Dempo have eight.
