Going on a date? Be safe

New to the world of dating? Or are you simply sitting on the fence, not knowing whether the big, wide and rough dating world is really your cup of tea? If safety is what bothers you, and given the fast pace of times, not something one wouldn’t be bothered about, then there are ways of going out and having a good time while ensuring your safety.

The following tips are also useful in times when you are headed on a blind date or a first date.

Avoid secluded places: In fact it is best to meet at public places like a fast-food joint or coffee shop. Deserted parks or beaches must be strictly avoided.

Commute yourself: You must have a means of transport to reach the rendez-vous. If you don’t have one, ask a friend of yours to lend one or maybe drop you to your meeting place. If you are driving yourself, make sure the vehicle is loaded up on fuel.

Consider double dating: If your gut feel about the your date is not right, go on a double date or better still, meet as a group of people. For as long as it takes for you to get comfortable with the person, you can drag a friend along.

Go Dutch:  You might feel overwhelmed if the other person flashes all the moolah on the date. So be clear about pitching in your part of expenses. Opt for a cheaper eatery but make sure that you pay your part of the bill.

Let someone know: Make sure that someone from your family knows where you are going and what time you’ll be back. Ask a friend to give a check-up call midway through your date.

Avoid getting drunk: Even in group situations, getting drunk could make you vulnerable to being led around. If you do get sozzled, stick by your group of close friends.

Finally, don’t ignore your gut feeling. If something seems fishy, why take chances?
