Goldey-Beacom Men’s Basketball Dealt 92-65 Loss at Kutztown
Goldey-Beacom hung around with Kutztown early on, but in the end was handed a 92-65 loss in Kutztown, PA.
The teams battled to a near stalemate over the first 12 minutes before Kutztown ended the half on an 18-11 run to open a 39-29 lead. Josh Johnson scored six points in that run for the Golden Bears and Tyler Brooks added four.
Chris Gebhart (Cherry Hill, NJ) scored nine points in the half and fellow senior Joey Getz (Philadelphia, PA) added eight for the Lightning.
Kutztown then pulled away with an 18-6 run to open the second half for a 57-35 cushion in the first six minutes. Anthony Selby scored six points with Johnson, Tynell Fortune and Austin Beidelman each netting four.
Getz enjoyed his finest game of the season to date, scoring a season-best 24 points with six rebounds and four assists. He also shot 10-for-11 from the free throw line.
Gebhart had 13 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth straight double-double and sixth this season for the Lightning (3-7), who could not overcome hitting just 32 percent (17-of-54) from the field.
Johnson finished with 16 points, Brooks netted 14 and Howard Sellars contributed 11 for the Golden Bears (6-3).
Goldey-Beacom returns to Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play next Wednesday at Chestnut Hill, starting at 8:00 pm.
