Gons Nachman, a former U.S. diplomat, was sentenced to the maximum 20 years in prison for having sex with teenage girls and videotaping it while stationed in Brazil and the Congo.
Gons Nachman, 41, admitted to the charges against him but sought leniency from the judge claiming that cultural differences between the United States and Brazil and the Congo made his actions more permissible. He was also accused but not charged of pressuring Brazilians applying for visas into sex.
A Virginia judge sentenced Gons Nachman to 10 year sentences for each of the two counts he was convicted of, an usually harsh sentence.
