Places of tourist interest
The state government is doing its best to look after the comforts of tourists. The region is dotted with tourist bungalows, lodges and youth hostels as well as rest –houses put up by the public works and the Forest Departments. In addition, there are Good Hotels in the bigger towns, such as Shimla, Dalhousie and Manali.
There are also a few well known places, including the former Vicergal Lodge near Shimla, which have been turned into Hotels for the affluent. But in remote regions like the Lahaul and Spiti Valley, the tourist has pitched his own tent or is content with the hospitality of a villager living in his stone dwelling.
We start our automobile journey through Himachal Pradesh from Pathankot in Punjab. The vehicle takes us to higher and cooler places, leaving the hot and steamy plains below us.
Much has been written about the natural beauty and grandeur of this Himalayan state.
Once it is opened through a network of motor able roads, it will no doubt become another tourist paradise like Kashmir, a Tourist’s Dreamland.
