Google launches You Tube India

Popular video sharing site YouTube owned by Google, launched its Indian version (www.youtube.co.in) that features a localised homepage and search functions.

Youtube has already signed up a host of Indian content partners for its local face – Eros Entertainment, Rajshri Films, IIFA, ministry of tourism, IIT Delhi, NDTV, UTV, Zoom TV, India TV, Krishcricket, etc. Before India, YouTube had localised versions in 19 other countries, which includes Australia, Brazil, Spain, Russia, etc. YouTube has been adding around 2 lakh users monthly. Hundreds of videos are uploaded on YouTube everyday.

The buzz about an YouTube’s India launch has been afloat since last late last year, when the company reportedly bought YouTube.in and YouTube.co.in domain for around Rs 2.5 lakh, according to India‘s official domain registry.

The Indian replicas of YouTube like Meravideo.com, aapkavideo, videodubba, videochutney will have to gear up for tough competition from the video community giant.
