The Washington Post as well as the Houston Chronicle reported late Thursday evening that the Republican Party is considering delaying their presidential convention in Minneapolis due to the eventual landfall of Hurricane Gustav in the Gulf Coast. The storm is growing in intensity and all models show that it will most likely hit the city of New Orleans.
McCain campaign spokerpersons mentioned this possibility late Thursday as the possibility of of seeing another Category 3 hurricane hit the Crescent City would upstage the GOP’s quardennial event as they planned to officialize presumptive nominee John McCain.
"Sen. McCain has always been sensitive to national crisis. In the 2000 race, he postponed his announcement because of the situation in the Balkans. We are monitoring the situation very closely," said convention spokeswoman Maury Donahue. To many this is an effort to go in the opposite direction that George W. Bush administration took during the entire Katrina debacle.
Some go as far as speculating they are in shambles after the Barack Obama speech given in the finale of the Democratic convention in Denver. In reality very few people doubt that the convention will not be delayed do to the complexity behind the orchestarting of an event of such magnitude.
In a bout of irony is what the Republican party suffered from as their biggest- religion- betrayed them. Former pastor and weatherman lead nationwide campaigns for people to pray for rain on the Obama acceptance speech.
The Republican party is also scheduled to announce John McCain’s running partner
