Ronald Brownstein of the National Journal has said that the rate that the GOP is going, people like Rudy Giuliani, Ron Paul, and Fred Thompson should be practicing their victory speeches. Three possible winners have been produced as a result of the four Republican contests. However, two of the candidates have caused panic on the right with the third one presenting a conclusion that the GOP cannot escape from.
The inescapable conclusion is that there are no contenders that are even close to solidifying the Republican Party. Right now, the GOP is divided and discouraged.
“The candidates all have limitations,” said former White House director of strategic incentives for Bush, Peter Wehner.
Panic amongst the conservatives came when Mike Huckabee claimed victory in Iowa with John McCain taking New Hampshire. So far, elements in the Right have been enraged by each of these candidates. They were enraged by those that focused on the economy.
So far, no GOP candidate has energized the components of the modern conservative coalition. It would mean that whoever wins the nomination will inherit a party that is fractured.

Huckabee has been defined as the identity-candidate amongst Evangelical Christians.
