It was not long ago in which the slimmed down economic stimulus bill was signed by United States President Barack Obama. So far, the economic stimulus bill has been an issue that may have the potential to cause an internal rift within the Republican Party. So far, some of the GOP Governors are talking about rejecting the stimulus money. However, it is neither confirmed nor official. They are just simply "thinking it over."
GOP Governors Bobby Jindal of Louisiana, Sarah Palin of Alaska (McCain’s VP running-mate as the GOP rival against Obama), Rick Perry of Texas, and Mark Sanford of South Carolina are contemplating on rejecting the stimulus funds. However, GOP Governors Arnold Schwarzenegger of California and Charlie Crist of Florida intend to accept the stimulus money.
So far, Crist is receiving much backlash from the GOP. However, Crist still remains popular amongst voters in Florida.
In Schwarzenegger’s case, he said if the four governors reject the stimulus money, he would be happy to take their share of the funds. He was interviewed at the National Governors Association meeting.
He said: “I just hope they give me their funding.”
Schwarzenegger has made it clear that he’ll happily take the extra funding if neither of them accepts the stimulus money. Like Crist, Schwarzenegger is also dealing with a crisis that is plaguing his state. In this respect, both of them are driven by what is going on with the economy.
But it is unknown whether they will reject the money or not.
