Governor lauds services of J&K State Red Cross Society

Governor inaugurates Red Cross Mela at Jammu

Jammu, December 14, (Scoop News)- N. N. Vohra, the Governor, and the President of Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and Kashmir, inaugurated the ‘Red Cross Mela’ at Gulshan Ground, Jammu.
Mrs. Usha Vohra, the First Lady was present on the occasion.
Congratulating the Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu Region, on the very happy occasion of its Golden Jubilee celebrations, Governor observed that such fairs should be a biannual feature in every district of the State. He further added that the philanthropic work being done by this organization requires the availability of large resources and organization of Melas and similar events contribute towards fund raising.
Appreciating the activities carried out by the State Red Cross Society during the last few months, the Governor said that much more should be done for mobilizing larger resources so that the whole State can be abuzz with the activities of the organization. He also stressed the need for the objectives of the Red Cross being ever kept in mind and for its volunteers to be always at hand in the event of any kind of emergency or calamity.
The Governor, congratulated Kiran Kumar Sharma a Red Cross Volunteer whose promptness in providing first aid and shifting of an accident victim to the hospital saved the man’s life.
Earlier, the First Lady and the Governor visited the stalls put up at the venue by governmental and private organizations. They showed interest in the products being displayed and interacted with the students, officers, and others who were managing the stalls.
The participating organizations in the ‘Mela’ included, the main sponsors Jammu & Kashmir Bank and co sponsor Punjab National Bank, India Air Force, Border Security Force, Central Reserve Police Force, Jammu & Kashmir Police, Government departments of Handicrafts, Horticulture, Government Degree Colleges and others.
Shantmanu, Divisional Commissioner Jammu presented the welcome address on the occasion and said that such ‘melas’ are very helpful in fund raising and for this year a collection of more than Rs. 20 lakh is expected. He also announced that the Raffle draw would be held tomorrow on 4:00 P.M at the venue.
On the ocassion a very colourful cultural programme, comprising Saraswati Vandana and dances of different regions of the country was presented by the students of Government Degree College Gandhi Nagar.
A Vote of Thanks was presented byAnil Padha, Honorary Secretary, Regional Red Cross Society, Jammu.
Navin. K. Choudhary Principal Secretary to Governor, Mrs. Roma Wani, Honorary General Secretary, Indian Red Cross Society, Jammu and Kashmir, Ajit Sahu Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Atul Goel Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu, Soujanya Sharma, Director Information , Jammu were present on the occasion.
