The state government of Bihar has decided to give full attention to nearly one million out-of-school children, mostly belonging to Muslim and Mahadalit sections of society. Talimi Markaz will be opened for poor Muslim children and Utthan Kendra for children of Mahadalit castes. They will also be provided free residential and other facilities. The teachers will be local and belong to the same section of society in these schools. The children once trained at these centres will later be enrolled in general schools. About 10 lakh children are still out of school, and hence these schemes are being launched.
