Graduate Program Wages Too Little To Live On, Say Hong Kong Students

The government of Hong Kong recently launched the Hong Kong University Graduate Internship Program, meant to encourage businesses to hire recent grads in the city.  In the program, every graduate receives a minimum wage of 4,000 HKD ($516.00 USD), per month with 2,000 HKD paid by the government.

The program is meant to encourage more employers to employ the fresh graduates, but was met with opposition from university students, who say 4,000 HKD per month is too little to live on. Graduates are concerned that if the employer can employ the graduates at such a low wage, no one will spend more money to employ them.

No one knows if this program will be put into practice. Nearly all Hong Kong students are trying their best to stop it.
