Hempstead, NY – Three Hofstra grapplers, graduate-student Cody Ruggirello and sophomores Jamel Hudson and Michael Hughes, are ranked in the latest NCAA Division I wrestling polls this week.

Ruggirello (Walden, NY) is ranked in all five polls at 149 pounds this week after winning 13 of his first 16 outings. After placing fifth at last weekend’s Cliff Keen-Las Vegas Invitational, he is ranked 12th by The Wrestling Report, 15th by WIN Magazine, 16th by The Open Mat, 18th by Amateur Wrestling News and 20th by InterMat. Ruggirello, a 2014 NCAA Championship qualifier, has won six of his last eight matches.

After being ranked in all five polls last week, sophomore Jamel Hudson (Bay Shore, NY) is ranked in four of the five at 141 pounds after posting a 0-1 record due to injury at the CKLV Invitational. He is ranked 14th by The Wrestling Report, 17th by The Open Mat, 18th by InterMat and 20th by WIN Magazine. Hudson, who has also won six of his last eight matches, is now 8-3 on the season.

Sophomore Michael Hughes (Smithtown, NY), who joined Ruggirello as the only two Pride wrestlers to compete on day two of the CKLV Invitational last weekend, moved up one spot to 26th in The Wrestling Report at 285 pounds. Hughes, who has won 10 of his last 13 matches, is now 11-4 on the season.

Hofstra is idle until Sunday, December 21 as the Pride prepare for semester finals. Hofstra will return to action at the Grapple at the Garden in New York City’s Madison Square Garden, the home for the 2016 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, when the Pride will face Maryland at 10 a.m. and EIWA-opponent, Bucknell at noon.

Tickets for the Grapple at the Garden can be purchased in person or by phone (516-HOF-TIXX) through the Hofstra Athletic Ticket Office in the David S. Mack Sports and Exhibition Complex through Friday, December 12 at 4:30 p.m. After that, tickets can be purchased through Ticketmaster.com.
