Back in July 2013 we ran a story of how a UK Based independent film-maker had a Great White Shark try to eat his camera!
UK Based film-maker, Ricardo Lacombe traveled to False Bay, near Cape Town – South Africa, to cage dive with these amazing animals and was subsequently commissioned by the famous Rob Lawrence (of Discovery Channel’s “Airjaws” fame) to craft some promotional videos for his company, African Shark Eco-Charters.
Between the two of them they came up with the idea to produce a full length documentary about living and working alongside the Great White Sharks, as Ricardo felt with a passion that the common portrayal in the media of the animal is so far removed from the reality of the experience in person.
“Within an instant of seeing a Great White up close, especially from within a cage in the water, you realize that all you have seen of teeth and blood and over sensationalist clips in mainstream media….is a massive misconception. That’s a hard story to sell to anyone who has not had the privilege of being up close to one. Sharks get a bad rap and we wanted to set about changing that! I guarantee you that you have not seen the true nature of the Great White….until now!”
With the input of camera company GoPro, Ricardo and his co-director (and wife!) Rachel Lacombe, took to South Africa to interview some of the most knowledgeable people in the area and tell a new tale, a new legend for future generations. Since it’s premiere the film has attracted some extremely positive reviews via IMDB and now you can see it for yourself.
