CHITRAL: Unknown gunmen kidnapped a foreign teacher working in the Kalash valley after killing his police security guard early on Tuesday morning, chitraltoday.com reported.
Mr Athanasee Laironaise from Greece was working at a school-cum museaum set up by the Greek Association of Teachers to promote and preserve Kalash culture and language at Bumburet.
The gunmen entered the spacious building at about 1am after killing the police head constable Zafar Ahmad, a resident of Kosht village, and kidnapped the Greece teacher. Before taking away the man, they also hanged a Kalash teacher of the school from a nearby tree and shot and injured two more policemen.
Two foreign women were also reportedly staying in the school with the kidnap victim; however, there is no report about their whereabouts. Reports said the gunmen might have come from the neighbouring Nooristan province of Afghanistan. Criminals usually frequent across the porous border and run away after committing crime in Chitral. The valley of Chitral has so far been peaceful as the area people have unitedly checked infiltartion of the militant Taliban from the nearby districts like Swat, Dir and Fata.
