Who doesn’t enjoy the opportunity to wrap their mouth around, and sink their teeth into a perfectly girlled hamburger or cheeseburger, or in this case a bacon/cheese burger, smothered with all those delicious tasting gooey toppings?
Ingredients:
2 pounds of lean ground beef
6 slices of bacon (to blend with you beef)
8-10 Slices of bacon to use as a garnish your burgers
1/2 cup of bread crumbs
Here’s a little tip:
As a substitute for the breadcrumbs, take 12 (unsalted) saltine crackers and crush them into almost a powder and add them instead.
1 large egg
12 slices of either cheddar or provalone cheese or whatever your favorite cheese might be.
A jar of sliced pickled beets
salt and pepper seasoning to taste
1/2 of a medium sized onion (finely diced)
1 tablespoon of garlic powder (or to taste)
1/2 teaspoon of dried hot pepper flakes (optional)
slices of fresh tomato for garnish
1 dozen hamburger buns
Preparations:
Preheat your BBQ Grill to 450 and 500 degrees F.
First things first. On your grill side burner, fry up your bacon strips until they are cooked crispy.
Once your bacon is cooked, let it sit on some paper towel to cool and once cooled cut 6 slices of bacon into small pieces.
In a large bowl place your ground beef, bread crumbs, or, (crushed saltines) salt and pepper, chopped onion, and garlic powders, and dried hot pepper seeds (if desired) and your egg.
Now it’s time to get your hands dirty. Blend this mixture together and knead it just like you would if you were making bread, until all of your ingredients are incorporated and blended together.
It’s time to fire up your BBQ or gas grill. Get it good and hot between 450 to 500 degrees F.
Make certain that your grilling surface is clean and lightly rub or spray a little cooking oil onto the grill surface to prevent sticking.
While your grill is heating up, it’s time to get your hamburger patties ready.
Grab a handful of your meat mixture, you want enough to be able to completely fill your hamburger bun, add in some of your bacon bits, then fold this in half and gently press into a patty. Continue doing this with the rest of your mixture until there’s no more.
Your ready for your grill now.
Space your burgers out over your grill and close the lid. This will permit your grill to seal in the burgers locking in their juiciness to keep them moist. After about 2 to 3 minutes its time to flip your burgers, so go ahead and flip them.
Once flipped, this is a great time to top off your burgers with a slice of your cheese. Also get a strip of bacon and split it into two, and lay it atop of the cheese, and allow it to gently melt ontop of your burger.
Lastly, as the cheese is melting warm up your burger buns on the back of your grill.
When the cheese is melted, assemble your burgers and buns and your ready to serve.
This last step is optional, but it’s a great way to really enjoy this burger.
Top off your burger with a couple of slices of pickled beets This is a great replacement for relish and adds pleasantly to the texture and taste of your burger.
You can top it off with whatever toppings you like. A nice slice of tomato goes great, or maybe some sauted mushroom slices.
Now you are ready to wrap your mouth around, and sink your teeth into a culinary delight that will make your mouth water with happiness.
Serve it up with a cold potato salad, or french fries, or just some potato chips and enjoy.
