CNNMoney’s Poppy Harlow was joined by GroundReport.com founding CEO Rachel Sterne and contributor Fred Obera to discuss GroundReport’s unique revenue-sharing business model. The video of the interview is available here.
"We want to give [our contributors] an incentive not only to come to GroundReport but to do a really great job on reporting world news when they do," Sterne says. She reports that the top earner at GroundReport made $270 last month, a pretty penny for any citizen journalist.
All GroundReport contributors are paid monthly via PayPal based on their unique traffic.
Fred Obera, a journalist from Kenya, spoke via live video from an internet cafe in his hometown of Kisumu. "GroundReport has been a great, great source for world news," he said, adding that the revenue share helps him support himself.
Sterne finished by stating plans to attract more contributors and launch regional GroundReport editions.
