Ground Report fair deal on compensation for reporters
By Emmanuel Udom
GroundReport has come out with a new form of compensation for reporters writing for the site. I got to know about this on Tuesday, August 7, this year when I sent a mail to the editor of the site, who replied me almost immediately.
I read through the new form of payment carefully and I think it is fair deal between the site and the reporters. Ground report has come out with a unique formula of sharing revenue from text links 50/50 from advertisers with the reporters.
It creates a kind of mutually beneficial partnerships between the site and all the reporters writing for it from across the globe. This means basically that we writers must turn in interesting, quality stories that could attract readers. This is the word of the editorial team of GroundReport.
However, I wish to say that in addition to these, human angle stories, written in simple, flowing prose with all the facts and figures confirmed as correct will certainly attract visitors and eventually revenue both for the site and the writer.
Across the globe, scandals, sex, crime, controversial issues and well researched write – ups are great hits, any day, anywhere. I therefore suggest that writers should recheck and confirm their sources for stories as authentic and credible in order not to attract libel.
With typical links range from $90 to $250 of revenue generated off a new links placed on our article by a new advertiser, writers will earn $45 to $125 for any new advertising placed on our stories.
Again, I say this is fair deal as the amount earned by a writer is basically determined by the person. The world, with the coming of the internet is now a global family. Writers must therefore conform to the modern technology driven world and make their money by using their skills, passions, talents and knowledge.
But, I want to also suggest that GroundReport think of the possibility of allowing writers from Nigeria to open a domiciliary account to receive their monies, as the country is presently not recognized by paypal for online payments. Thumbs up for GroundReport.
Editor’s note: GroundReport receives questions on a daily basis regarding reporter compensation and we published an article on this matter in January 2012. Please note: GroundReport shares revenue from new text links placed by advertisers in specific articles, but the advertising revenue from ad impressions along with donations help to pay for the site.
