Growth “To grow at the cost of others”
As we know that the two strong pillar of growth are: Rapid Industrialization (exploitation of natural resources) and Commercial Agriculture (exploitation of soil fertility and loss of biodiversity ).
Nation “A sovereign state”
Aquatic Ecosystem “An ecosystem in a body of water”
There are two ecosystem on earth popularized as “terrestrial ecosystem” and “aquatic ecosystem”
Nature is a beautiful home for all of us. Both ecosystems are equally important for survival of nature.
Now question is why nature is being exploited day by day. Answer is very simple; we are fully responsible for this phenomenon. Yes please do not exclude yourself. If you are excluding yourself please remember your daily activities when you exploit the nature. Even if you do not remember I will remind you. Have you ever actively reacted when waste are dumped in your street or unused ground without proper waste management and implementation technique. Have you ever noticed what happened when you drive your car, use hybrid food, use luxurious goods (manufactured after exploiting resources which can’t be available for a long days for your generation). Just for information, Oil is now being consumed four times faster than it is being discovered and the situation is becoming critical.
We can do anything to defend our ego. Why we people are so greedy??
Let’s see how we are exploiting not only terrestrial ecosystem but also aquatic ecosystem.
A phenomenon in water body of ocean:
Eutrophication: A process usually prevailed in those countries that are doing intensive commercial farming just for the high yield by using pesticides, chemicals and fertilizers. As result, All lakes nearby receive high quantity of nutrients and minerals through manures and fertilizers through weathering and erosion agents.
Areas under Eutrophication:
Many industrialized countries:
Examples: USA (Mississippi River), China (Yangtze River) etc
Causes of Eutrophication:
- Soil Erosion
- Discharge of Detergent
- Runoff of manure and inorganic fertilizer
- Waste form industries
Effects of Eutrophication:
- Increase in frequency of algal blooms(population of algae)
- Decrease in diversity of species
- Developing low oxygen level due to a large algae (It covers a huge space and resist the sunlight penetration and loss of invertebrates and fishes due less of oxygen)
- Increase cloudiness in water
Area of Concern:
Due to a rapid growth of algal bloom (algae population), recreational use of lakes and estuaries is hampered and it leads to loss of diversity of indigenous fish, plant, and animals.
More than 150 sea areas worldwide are now prone to oxygen as result loss of biodiversity. These dead zone are typically associated with the industrialized nations especially who encourages the farmers to use fertilizers in order to increase their yields. Increased eutrophication leads a massive problem in some estuaries of ‘Atlantic Ocean’
