Looking at the footages of war at international television broadcasts, wherein many of the coalition forces treat the situation like an ordinary war as manifested by their actual combat strategies on the frontline, the situation doesn’t seem to favor their best interests and safety.
How in the world can soldiers walk in the open desert field, even if you knew that the streets are cleared and without any danger at all lurking ahead of everybody else? For weary soldiers, whose bodies are laden with heavy loads, mobility has always been identified by military experts as a burden. With a heavy load, maneuvering the streets and open fields, where the scorching heat of the sun is all the more putting the soldiers’ stamina in question, becomes impossible and dangerous.
A lot of bright ideas and war strategies have come up recently, while talking to some ex-special forces from Asia who have fought in Korea, Vietnam and Mindanao, Philippines, they could only give a deep sigh of relief to the sight of soldiers walking unperturbed by the dangers that lurk ahead of them along the way. According to them, what they saw is not appropriate, knowing that Iraq is now marred by daily sectarian violence between the Shia and the Sunni militants who fight for control and vengeance, perhaps, over oil-rich territories and dead loved ones. You never knew what lies ahead as the soldiers go on a search mission out there. This could, perhaps, be the reason why some soldiers are exposed to the bombings, ambush and other atrocities considered to be brutal and inhuman.
Commonly, soldiers’ lives and safety are at risk 100 percent, especially during battles. If there is any chance for them to relax, they will take advantage of it such that many have become casualties of war. But not all do this. Therefore, they suggested that coalition soldiers on a search mission should not use the streets during assignments because it is more like that they could become targets of Muslim insurgents. What normally happens is that land mines are buried ahead on regular street routes where armored vehicles and tanks pass. Soldiers on foot patrols can instead establish other routes that are not common to the enemies to reach their targets, the retired special forces said. According to them, warfare strategies being applied to in the jungles of Asia and the open fields of the Middle East or North Africa, make no big difference at all. It’s just a matter of using the famed guerilla tactics to outwit the enemies. In this way, major casualties can be averted.
