The overland route takes you through Meghalaya, while the train tends to be rather draw-out and at times none too comfortable. About 19 km from Silchar is the famous shrine at Bhuban Hill. The last few kilometers have to be done on foot over a tortuous hill pass. Situated here is the temple of Shiva and Parvati. About 3 km from Jowai is the Thadlaskein Lake. The atmosphere here is tranquil and the rowing relaxing. Nartiang, 24 km away, is a valley famous for its ancient Hindu monoliths.
