The recent rape and murder of a 22-year old Wipro call centre employee in Pune has raised a serious question about the safety of BPO employees in the country. The incident has raised a million dollar question on the safety of women working in night shifts in call centres across India.
And continuing with TIMES NOW’s special series — ‘Who’s driving you home today?’ — we get a first hand narration of the harassment suffered by female BPO employees at the hands of the cab drivers hired by their companies.
"They are lecherous and if they get a call, they will attend the call and will use the language, which they shouldn’t be using when girls are around," says a girl working in a BPO company in Gurgaon on the condition of anonymity. While echoing similar sentiment, another gril working in a leading BPO in Hyderabad said:"Their looks are lecherous, which makes us feel very uncomfortable. They also use filthy language and pass obnoxious comments."
While, a guy working in a BPO in Gurgaon said:"Sometimes they sleep and we have to ask them not to sleep. At times, they also smoke."
