Hawk Trade says it is delighted with progress made by Nanotec Industries on a new direct delivery diabetes treatment.
Tokyo-based private fund, Hawk Trade is reportedly delighted with progress being made by one of the rising stars in its venture portfolio, Nanotec Industries after the firm published details of progress it has made during clinical trials with its diabetes treatment.
According to a spokesperson at Hawk Trade, the company has circumvented a problem, which had hampered its nano-based smart delivery system from effectively regulating glucose levels from within the body. The system would effectively take over the role performed by a pancreas which cannot produce insulin or the body is unable to make use of what it does produce.
“The system automatically regulates sugar levels rather than requiring a patient to conduct a finger prick test at varying intervals. There was a technical issue that they seem to have ironed out and that represents a major breakthrough,” said a Hawk Trade analyst.
Those suffering with diabetes face a perpetual battle to manage the effects of the condition. Daily self-management requires discipline and has many limitations including the inability to check glucose levels while asleep. The Nanotec Industries innovation, once fully tested, could be the first commercially available nanotechnology-powered treatment that could dramatically improve the quality of life for diabetics.
Hawk Trade said the company was also working on a breathalyser-type of detection system which uses nano-particles to detect acetone on the breath.
“The amount of acetone on the breath evidently bears a correlation to blood sugar levels and this could be a viable alternative in the future but this approach requires further research,” concluded the Hawk Trade analyst.
